✨UPDATE: 2nd Annual Westminster Food Drive✨
I launched this food drive just a couple weeks ago and the community stepped up!
We have already far surpassed (!!) our goal of $1,000, which means FISH of Westminster’s Thanksgiving lunch for ~120 people (most are unhoused) is now fully funded. If you would still like to give financially, please donate here; all dollars will be donated to FISH of Westminster to help fund their ongoing supplies that they give out daily to individuals in need. They host this lunch at Westminster Presbyterian Church in partnership with Congregation B’Nai Torah (CBT), the Journey Church, and Westminster Stake of the Church of Later-Day Saints (LDS).
My heart is full as several community members (incl. Gary Bland, Ed Lucero and others) have volunteered to collect food from across the Denver metro area to support our Westminster residents. We are in need of food items (e.g. canned goods, dry foods, oil, juice, potatoes, etc.). All donations will directly benefit Growing Home’s pantry (serving hundreds of individuals).
🚨Our goal is to feed 1,000 families by Thanksgiving. Please help if you can!🚨
Why is this drive important: 33% of our neighbors and 16% of children lack reliable access to nutritious foods due to financial constraints. 20% of adults regularly cut back or skip meals due to insufficient funds to buy food. Food pantries are regularly turning away clients because demand has outpaced supply.

Important Voting Reminder
Vote YES on Westminster Ballot Issue 3C, because our firefighters and our residents deserve higher levels of safety, particularly as wildfires and public demand for service continue to increase. More info here.
Vote YES on Westminster Ballot Issue 3D, because all residents deserve better representation and our current at-large system is exclusionary which impacts our seniors, fixed and low-income, and Black and Brown people the most. More info here, and see my prior newsletters about Wards. If it passes, it creates 3 geographic wards, each electing two City Councillors with staggered four-year terms, starting in 2025, and includes compact ward design, a 10% population deviation, a one-year residency requirement, and updates to ward boundaries every 10 years based on the Census, while adhering to term limits and laws to prevent gerrymandering.
“Government Unpacked” is a fact-based newsletter delivering deep dives on politics, history, and civics from a Colorado policymaker to help you unpack government and find your purpose to change the world.
Share it with a friend or neighbor. The better informed we are, the stronger our democracy.
