“Obi’s City Council Lately”
Westminster State of the City
On October 17, during our annual Westy Fest celebration in City Park, the Mayor delivered our first-ever, public State of the City address sharing highlights and City Council actions from the past year and a look at what’s ahead for Westminster.
I’m thankful for all that our City Council has accomplished together. For decades, my constituents in Westminster were fed a mythology that government can either balance the budget or invest in the real needs of people…but not both. I believe municipal government can invest in roads, open space, public safety, and core infrastructure while also taking direct, practical action to make life more affordable for working families.
Over the past year, I’m proud to have spearheaded the development and passage of these initiatives and helped bring affordability to the forefront of our work:
Established community-led Utility Affordability Advisory Board which led to first-ever reduction in water rates for essential indoor use for single family and multifamily residents
Established new Westminster Downpayment Assistance Program for first-time homebuyers
Eliminated sales tax on infant formula, diapers and feminine hygiene products
Eliminated property tax for Childcare providers via a new 100% rebate program
Prioritized childcare affordability in Westminster’s Strategic Plan, setting a new standard for municipal childcare leadership in Colorado
Adopted a landmark 2040 Comprehensive Plan amendment recognizing childcare as essential infrastructure and established zoning by right by opening all safe zoning types to childcare providers
Historic expansion of local food production to provide cheaper eggs
Ended mass surveillance and initiated policy development for citywide privacy protections

Westcliff HOA Town Hall:
I launched this HOA town hall series to build better connections with our residents that live in HOAs, which comprise almost 65% of the entire city. On September 29, Councilmember Hott and I had a wonderful time speaking with residents at Westcliff Neighborhood Park about housing affordability, development concerns, water conservation and city budget priorities. As always, I compiled a list of follow-up items (community requests and questions) for prioritization to city staff. All captured on this website: https://www.voteobi.com/obi-ezeadi-hoa-townhalls
Upcoming Stop:
Nov 10 at 6PM, Arrowhead HOA w/ special guest State Rep Lori Goldstein

In my Councilor comments on Sep 21, I highlighted the launch of my 4th annual Westminster Food Drive, running through December 21st, benefiting Fish of Westminster and Growing Home. In partnership with Westy Dog Park Guardians and Councilor Adam Barajas, 14 volunteers and 30 participating collection locations/businesses
In my Councilor comments on October 12, I recognized firefighters that received awards at the annual Firefighter Award Ceremony. I wanted to honor the profound bravery of the men and women who risk everything to protect the lives of our residents. Some stories I shared:
* Chris Harrington founded the First Minute Project for school Stop the Bleed training.
* Danny Fitch was honored for his 32-year career and wildland team leadership.
* Devin Weeden, Jeff Graham, Martin Perez, Matt Freeman, Jim Gagliano, and Brian Hart revived a dog from a fire.
* Kade Bennett, Jen Blakesley, Jacob O’Neill, Luke Paradise, Brandon Cosgrove, and Danny Fitch saved a man at the pool.
