5/26/24 Update: Honoring Memorial Day
Thank you for your service
This Memorial Day weekend, we honor those who gave their lives in service to our country. Those who valued the safety of their neighbors and their nation above their own. Those who believed so strongly in America's promise and potential that they paid the ultimate price to defend it.
As the son of immigrants and a first-generation American, I've always deeply respected the sacrifices made by those who defend our freedoms. I have many in-laws who are veterans of war, and I'm a member of the Jefferson County Veterans Initiative. To those we have lost, and to the families and friends who still feel the pain of your absence, I am humbled by your bravery, your selflessness, and your commitment to this nation.
In honoring the fallen, we must also support those who served alongside them, ensuring their sacrifices were not in vain. Colorado is home to over 400,000 veterans, with 25% reporting poor mental health and many lacking stable housing. Women veterans face systemic barriers to behavioral health treatment, and 145,000 veterans in rural Colorado struggle with inadequate resources. These challenges demand targeted, effective solutions. If elected to state senate, my vision for veteran services will focus on funding gender-specific behavioral health treatment options, enhancing mental health services and establishing new centers prioritizing PTSD and trauma-related disorders, increasing transitional housing with comprehensive case management, and mobilizing mobile healthcare units and tele-health services to ensure veteran access to quality healthcare regardless of geography.
Today and every day, may we continue working together to make this country a more perfect union. This Memorial Day, let us remember the sacrifices made for our freedom and commit to supporting our veterans with the care and respect they deserve.
